West Brom appeared to have made a significant signing in 2008 with Luke Moore from Aston Villa. Despite West Brom’s promotion to the Premier League for the 2009/10 season, Moore’s performance was disappointing. He struggled to score during his loan period in the Championship and failed to make a significant impact in the Premier League, with just one goal in 23 appearances across all competitions. This lackluster performance contributed to West Brom’s swift relegation back to the Championship after one season.
There were expectations for Moore to leave the club after this downturn, but the new manager, Roberto Di Matteo, saw potential in him during preseason and decided to retain him. However, Moore’s form remained inconsistent, with occasional bright spots like his brace against Peterborough United but overall unsatisfactory numbers, scoring only four goals in 29 games.
His time at West Brom concluded with a loan to Derby County and then a permanent move to Swansea City in January 2011. At Swansea, Moore’s form slightly improved, notably helping the team reach the Premier League for the first time and scoring a couple of goals during his tenure there. However, his career trajectory after leaving West Brom included stints in Turkey and the MLS before retiring at the age of 30.
Ultimately, despite some successes at other clubs, Moore’s tenure at West Brom is largely remembered for his underwhelming performance, earning him the reputation of being a major disappointment among West Brom supporters.
