West Bromwich Albion have announced a unique agreement with West Ham United that involves Callum Marshall returning to his parent club. Marshall, along with Mikey Johnston from Celtic and Andreas Weimann from Bristol City, arrived on loan in January. Despite Marshall’s limited playing time since joining, having only made three substitute appearances totaling 54 minutes and not featuring at all since mid-February, he had previously shown promise by scoring 19 goals in 14 appearances for West Ham United’s under 21s in the first half of the season.

Marshall’s loan stint coincided with Daryl Dike’s return from injury and Brandon Thomas-Asante’s prominent role as Carlos Corberan’s preferred striker. Additionally, Weimann’s presence increased competition in the team. Although Corberan praised Marshall’s training efforts, acknowledging his adjustment to a daily routine in a first-team environment, it was decided that he would return to West Ham United, albeit not officially terminating the loan due to transfer window restrictions.

The arrangement allows Marshall to play for West Ham United’s under 21s for the rest of the season, providing him with more match experience. West Bromwich Albion retains the option to recall Marshall if needed before the season concludes. Overall, this decision was made in consideration of Marshall’s development and best interests for the remainder of the season.
