Celtic manager discloses discussions with a West Brom player as Watford targets

Celtic’s manager Brendan Rodgers has mentioned that they will consider the future of West Brom star Mikey Johnston in the upcoming summer. Johnston, aged 24, has made a significant impact since joining The Hawthorns, boasting an impressive goal-to-game ratio with six goals and one assist in 10 matches for the Baggies so far.

Before his move to West Midlands, Johnston had limited playing time with only four starts in the early part of the season. However, he has excelled at West Brom, scoring four goals in his last three games, leading to calls for the club to sign him permanently.

Despite being under contract at Celtic Park until 2026, if West Brom secures promotion to the Premier League, they might have to pay a substantial transfer fee to secure Johnston permanently.

Rodgers discussed his conversation with Johnston during the summer, advising him to focus on training consistently, considering his lack of game time. He praised Johnston’s progress and talent, expressing hope for his continued success so they can reassess the situation in the summer.

In other news, Football Insider reports that Shaun Maloney is being considered for the Watford manager’s position following Valerien Ismael’s departure. Maloney, currently managing Wigan Athletic, has experience stabilizing clubs despite challenges such as relegation and points deductions.

Maloney’s notable career includes playing for Celtic, Aston Villa, and winning the FA Cup with Wigan as a player. Meanwhile, tickets for West Brom’s upcoming match against Millwall have sold out, showcasing strong support as the team aims for a playoff spot under Carlos Corberan’s leadership.
