West Brom player drawing permanent League One transfer interest

West Brom full-back Zac Ashworth is wanted by Bolton Wanderers on a permanent basis, reporter Alan Nixon has said on his Patreon.

Last summer, West Brom authorized a fresh loan arrangement for their 21-year-old full-back, Ashworth, who was subsequently brought in by Bolton Wanderers for the entirety of the season. However, he didn’t see consistent playing time with the Trotters. Despite featuring in 23 matches throughout the season, Ashworth’s appearances were sporadic. Nonetheless, he still managed to contribute three goals and three assists, which is commendable. Unfortunately, Ashworth was left out of the matchday squad for all three of Bolton Wanderers’ play-off games.

Despite his limited game time at Bolton Wanderers, reporter Alan Nixon, in his Patreon, has indicated that the League One side is eager to secure Ashworth on a permanent basis this summer. As Bolton focuses on regrouping for the next season and reshaping their squad after the disappointment of missing out on the playoffs, it appears that Ashworth is a key consideration for Evatt to convert his loan deal into a permanent arrangement.

With Ashworth set to enter the final year of his contract with West Brom this summer, speculation about his future is bound to arise in the coming months. West Brom might opt to capitalize on the young academy graduate rather than risk losing him for free next summer, potentially opening the door for Bolton Wanderers to negotiate a deal.

Ashworth has accumulated six appearances for the West Brom first-team so far and had a previous stint at Burton Albion. With this senior experience under his belt, he’s likely eager to secure more playing time as he approaches his 22nd birthday in September.

Remaining at Bolton Wanderers, where he hasn’t seen much action, presents a dilemma for Ashworth. While he’s seen as a promising talent, the lack of game time may influence his decision if Bolton Wanderers aim to retain him this summer.

Nevertheless, he seems to suit Evatt’s system well, and having spent a season under their guidance, there’s optimism that he could be better prepared for increased minutes in the future. Additionally, if he becomes a permanent fixture at Bolton Wanderers, there would be added incentive to boost his playing time.

The ultimate outcome remains uncertain, with West Brom yet to finalize their plans for Ashworth upon his return from loan.
