The Cleveland Cavaliers’ terrible luck hasn’t stopped as they continue to be plagued by injuries in 2022–2023.In addition to the absences of Darius Garland and Evan Mobley, Donovan Mitchell is now suffering from a health issue that will prevent him from playing on Saturday. After contributing significantly to the Cavs’ victory over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, Sam Merrill is now sidelined for this next Bulls game due to a wrist injury, according Chris Fedor’s report. Merrill sustained the injury early in the New Orleans Pelicans’ Thursday game and did not play again.

After scoring 19 points earlier in the week against the Jazz, Merrill went on to score 27 points while slamming eight triples, which was a career-high. Despite the absence of three important players—Spida, Garland, and Mobley—he was the only player who could have made the difference and lead the Cavaliers to an unlikely victory. The thing that makes Merrill the most unique is that he was raised in Utah as a Jazz fan and burned the jersey of the team he looked up to in his early years.

According to Merrill, “We all work too hard to not enjoy moments like this,” as reported by Sports Illustrated. And even though I gave it everything I had, there were moments when I thought this might not work out. To tell the truth, my dream in high school was to play Division I basketball. I never even considered playing in the NBA. I simply didn’t believe that was going to occur because, in my hometown, guys typically don’t and just keep working nonstop.

And in the three and a half years since I graduated from college, there have been ups and downs. I was also a big Jazz fan growing up because I was raised in Utah. It makes it much more amazing to be able to play a game like that against them.
