According to reports, West Ham United has already started looking for a new manager and has even made an early offer to replace David Moyes.

Moyes taking a hard fall

David Moyes, the manager of West Ham, isn’t going down without a fight, and neither is his team, despite ongoing rumors about his future. At the London Stadium, they held Liverpool to a point thanks to a late header from Michail Antonio, which also effectively ended Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League.

Despite having played one extra game, West Ham now trails Newcastle United in the Premier League by four points, so the point didn’t really help either team.

With the departure of Jurgen Klopp at the end of the current campaign, the Reds will likely be searching for a new manager. Given that Moyes’ contract is currently set to expire, there’s a good chance the east Londoners will be looking for a new boss as well.

Offer from new manager made, but move unlikely

Reports now suggest that the Hammers are interested in replacing Moyes, and they even go so far as to say that the Londoners have put in an offer. The man under consideration? Former manager of Sevilla, Spain, and Wolves Julen Lopetegui has not had a job since departing the Molineux team a few days prior to the start of the new campaign.

Although there had previously been rumors of negotiations, Italian sources [via Sport Witness] now state that the Hammers have made an offer for the former Real Madrid manager. Not just any offer, either. They assert that this summer, David Sullivan will present a “rich offer” for his services.

The report also states that Lopetegui would prefer the chance to manage AC Milan, which is currently another option for him as current manager Stefano Pioli is expected to leave San Siro this summer, suggesting that a move appears unlikely.

Moyes vs Lopetegui in the Premier League
David Moyes Julen Lopetegui
Games managed 694 27
Win % 39% 37%
Points per game 1.42 1.3
Goals scored per game 1.35 1.15
Goals conceded per game 1.3 1.56

The Guardian adds that “key figures at the London Stadium are understood to be split on whether the former Spain and Real Madrid manager is the right man to replace Moyes.” Meanwhile, opinions are divided regarding Lopetegui’s return to England.

They go on to say that Moyes still has hope and that the Hammers may make “a late U-turn,” but as of right now, there appears to have been too much smoke to be fire surrounding his departure.
