West Bromwich Albion boss gives an update on injured star, calling him “hamstrings.”

West Bromwich Albion’s head coach, Carlos Corberan, provided an injury update on fullback Conor Townsend after he was forced off the pitch during Friday night’s game against Coventry City. The Baggies emerged victorious with a 2-1 win at The Hawthorns, but Townsend’s injury raised concerns.

The match saw West Brom take the lead early on with a goal from loan signing Mikey Johnston in the first seven minutes. Grady Diangana doubled the lead before halftime, putting the home side in a comfortable position. However, Coventry City managed to pull one back through Haji Wright’s penalty in the second half, but West Brom held on for the win.

Despite the positive result, Townsend’s injury marred the victory. He was substituted in the 65th minute due to what Corberan described as “tiredness” in his hamstrings. Corberan expressed uncertainty about the extent of the injury, stating that Townsend’s condition would be assessed further by the medical staff:

“The medical staff told me he had some tiredness, it was fatigue, in the hamstrings. Hopefully [just fatigue and not more] but I don’t know yet, they will see how he is tomorrow and I don’t know if they will make a scan or not, I didn’t speak [about it] yet with the medical staff.”

Corberan emphasized Townsend’s importance to the team and expressed hope that the injury is not serious. However, he acknowledged the need for contingency plans if Townsend is sidelined, indicating that alternative solutions will be explored if necessary.
