For now, the West Bromwich Albion recruitment squad will be preparing for life in the Championship and the Premier League.
The Baggies have a chance to secure promotion now that it’s in the promotion mix, which would alter their spending capacity.
It could also have an impact on the players they decide to trade for during the summer window.
More revenue will need to be produced to make sure Albion stays within the EFL’s budget constraints if Shilen Patel wants to spend a substantial sum during his first window in charge and the team stays in the second division.
However, there are some first-teamers that the Baggies may want to sell regardless of which league they are in – and we have listed these players below.
Karlan Grant
Grant is now on loan at Cardiff City. Given that he has previously been connected to a move outside of the Midlands, his brief departure to the capital of Wales is not surprising.
The contracts of a number of Albion players expire this summer, but the striker’s deal gets extended until 2026.
The former Huddersfield Town player signed a six-year contract with Albion upon his arrival in 2020, and unless they find a buyer or loan him out once more, Albion will be responsible for paying his wages.
A sale might be the best option for all involved, particularly for West Brom, who could use the money to bolster their forward line.
Daryl Dike recently had yet another catastrophic injury, so that money would come in really handy.
It would be interesting to see how much they can get out of Grant’s sale, though, considering his scoring record hasn’t been very strong this season. His solid scoring history from earlier in the season might help him get a promotion.

---|---|---|---|
Season | Appearances (all competitions) | Goals | Assists |
2019/20 (Huddersfield Town) | 44 | 19 | 4 |
2021/22 (West Brom) | 45 | 18 | 7 |
Josh Griffiths
Griffiths had appeared poised to secure a regular starting berth at The Hawthorns after his impressive EFL loan appearances.
Regretfully, the 22-year-old’s career hasn’t exactly gone as planned; as of this writing, he has only made three appearances across all competitions, with none of those coming in the league.
Given that Alex Palmer is superior to him in the standings and that Crystal Palace was rumored to be interested in signing him last month, Albion might determine it’s time to approve the keeper’s departure.
Selling him in the summer could help the Baggies avoid the possibility of losing him for nothing because his contract ends in 2025.
Semi Ajayi
Ajayi is still a first-teamer who plays a part under Carlos Corberan.
However, since October, he hasn’t started regularly and that has potentially raised question marks regarding the Nigerian’s future.
The 30-year-old may be looking to start regularly next season and if Corberan is unable to offer him that game time, a sale may be in the best interests of both the player and the club.
With his contract expiring in 2025, the summer may be the club’s final opportunity to generate a fee for the central defender before he potentially leaves on a free transfer.
