Tottenham make move to sign 21-year-old – Spurs ‘come forward’ for deal and have to battle Juve

Tuttosport reported on May 1st that Tottenham Hotspur sent an official to follow Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori, and the scout was impressed.

The 21-year-old has had an impressive debut season with the Serie A club, which has sparked interest from both Italy and abroad, including Spurs.

According to Tuttosport, Juventus, AC Milan, and Napoli are interested in the defender, while Tottenham and Bayer Leverkusen have ‘come forward’ to sign him.

In other words, a ‘auction is open’ for the centre-back, with Bologna hoping to raise €25 million from his sale. This will allow them to turn a profit after spending €4 million on the player last summer.
According to the report, many teams have ‘tested the waters’ for a potential deal during the summer.

Juventus is leading the race, with Tottenham, Bayer Leverkusen, Milan, and Napoli all interested. Their technical director, Cristiano Giuntoli, has been working on the deal for months, and the player is’ready to leave’ Bologna for Turin.

According to Tuttosport, the Old Lady intends to offer the Italy U21 international a five-year contract worth €2-2.5 million per season, with final details to be worked out between the two parties. They have also begun discussions with Bologna to try to reach an agreement.

Tottenham will need to act quickly and persuade Calafiori if they are to compete with Juventus in the next transfer window.
