Stevenage Set To Target Premier League Midfielder

Stevenage are reportedly keen to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Malachi Boateng this summer following his loan spell in Scotland, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

21-Year-Old Midfielder Boateng on Stevenage’s Radar for the 2024/25 Season

The 21-year-old midfielder Boateng, who has spent the last two seasons on loan in Scotland, is now being considered by Alex Revell’s Stevenage side ahead of the 2024/25 League One campaign.

Boateng’s Performance Last Season

During the 2023/24 season, Boateng played for SPFL side Dundee after a successful stint with Queen’s Park the previous year. He made 36 appearances across all competitions for Dundee, contributing one assist. He regularly started against top Scottish teams like Rangers, Hearts, and Celtic, playing a crucial role in helping Dundee remain in the Scottish Premiership.

Potential Impact at Stevenage

Under Steve Evans, Stevenage nearly secured a play-off spot in League One last season but faltered towards the end, with Evans eventually leaving for Rotherham United. Alex Revell is likely aiming to retain key players while also adding quality to his squad for the upcoming season.

Boateng, primarily a defensive midfielder, can also play as a centre-back if needed. At Dundee, he had a passing success rate of 77.8%, with averages of 1.12 interceptions and a 56.2% duel success rate per 90 minutes, making him a reliable presence in midfield.

Developmental Benefits for Boateng

Securing regular first-team football is crucial for a player’s development, and Boateng has enjoyed consistent playing time during his loans in Scotland. A permanent move to a League One side like Stevenage could be an attractive option for him.

Being based in London, a permanent deal within traveling distance would provide Boateng with stability, potentially boosting his morale and motivation. This stability could enhance his performances and aid in his overall development as a first-team footballer.
