Indiana Fever forward Sophie Cunningham has officially confirmed she will suit up for tonight’s highly anticipated game against the Atlanta Dream. The announcement comes after days of speculation surrounding her status due to an ankle injury she sustained during the preseason finale.
Initially ruled out, Cunningham was later upgraded to questionable after showing steady improvement during team practices. Speaking to reporters just hours before tipoff, she stated, “I’ve been working closely with the medical staff, and I feel ready. I’ll be playing tonight.”
Head Coach Stephanie White expressed optimism earlier in the week, calling Cunningham’s progress “encouraging” and saying the team would make a game-time decision based on her condition. With Cunningham now cleared, the Fever gain a major boost on both ends of the court.
Known for her 36.2% career shooting from beyond the arc, Cunningham is expected to provide spacing and veteran leadership. She impressed during preseason with a standout performance of 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists — a reminder of the impact she can make when healthy.
Tonight’s game tips off at 7:30 p.m. ET (12:30 a.m. WAT) at State Farm Arena in Atlanta and will be streamed live on Prime Video. With both teams seeking an early season win, Cunningham’s return could prove pivotal for the Fever.
