Sevilla plans to sign a second Leicester City player this summer

This summer, Sevilla plans to focus on Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City.

At the completion of the current campaign, the La Liga team would try to recruit the Nigerian, according to Spanish publication Vamos my Sevilla.

It is thought that the club cannot afford to sign Boubakary Soumaré, a Foxes player who is presently on loan with a top league team, to a permanent contract.

With eighteen league appearances since moving to Spain in the summer, Soumaré has established himself as a crucial player for Sevilla thus far this season (all statistics courtesy of Fbref).

The club negotiated an option to buy clause for €15 million (£12.8 million) as part of the loan agreement with Leicester, but they are now unable to afford it.

Wilfred Ndidi’s recent transfer

There has been conjecture regarding Ndidi’s future at King Power Stadium as his contract is scheduled to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Soumaré’s return to Leicester is now possible as Sevilla will focus on the midfield player rather than making a move for him.

Despite the Spanish team’s present financial difficulties, it has been stated that the Foxes are unlikely to drop their demands for Soumaré, who is valued at £12.8 million.

Ndidi has made 22 appearances in the Championship and has been a key member of Enzo Maresca’s team this season.

Since joining the team in 2017 after moving from Genk, the 27-year-old has been a vital member of the team. He even stayed with the Leicestershire team when they were demoted to the second division in the previous season despite a large-scale departure of first team players.#

Wilfred Ndidi’s position on his Leicester City contract

However, it’s known that he won’t be extending his contract at the King Power after this season, which makes it possible for him to leave for Sevilla.

Due to the lack of a transfer fee required to sign Soumaré, the Nigerian international presents a more inexpensive option to the club’s projected costs of up to €100 million (£85 million).

Even though Soumaré has received a lot of praise for his La Liga performances this season, Sevilla will need to consider their financial situation while making any future transfer decisions.

This might result in Soumaré being reintegrated into Leicester’s first team, and a decision regarding his future will probably be made at the end of the current season.

His future may also depend on the league standing of the club; Maresca’s team is expected to be promoted to the Premier League.
