Luka Doncic’s Powerful Message To Dallas Mavericks Amid NBA Finals Struggles

As it stands, no other team in NBA history has ever come back from a 0-3 deficit in the Finals. For Dallas Mavericks All-Star guard Luka Doncic , it’s not over yet for their team as they face the Boston Celtics.

In Game 3 , Luka Doncic’s defensive performance left much to be desired. While he consistently showcased his offensive prowess all season long, he fell short when it comes to defensive contributions against the Celtics in the NBA Finals.

It’s clear that defense is not Doncic’s strongest suit. Despite his 6’7″ stature, the guard doesn’t invest as much effort on the defensive end as he does on offense, where his skills are diverse and impressive. Even if that’s the case, the Slovenian All-Star still averaged 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists during the regular season.

Although this approach may be effective during the regular season, it becomes increasingly challenging to mask Doncic’s defensive weaknesses in the high-stakes intensity of the Finals. This was seen when the Mavs star attempted to draw a charge against All-Star wing Jaylen Brown in transition, only for the referees to call a blocking foul instead. As a consequence, he fouled out of the game.

Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic Drops Powerful Message Amid NBA Finals Struggles

After the game, Doncic faced reporters and shared his thoughts about how Dallas performed against the Celtics. In a post Grant Afseth shared on X, Slovenian star dropped a defiant take about the NBA Finals,

“Luka Doncic on facing a 3-0 series deficit: “Like I said, it’s not over till it’s over. We just got to believe. Like I always say, it’s first to four. We’re going to stay together. We lose together, we win together. So we got to stay together,” Afseth tweeted.

Throughout 20 playoff games, Doncic has averaged 28.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, 8.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per contest. He has also shot 44 percent from the field and 34 percent from deep over various teams in the postseason, including the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Celtics.

It remains to be seen whether Doncic and company can bounce back in Game 4. If not, they’d be on the receiving end of so much criticism for getting swept in the NBA Finals.

Monty Williams' exit from Pistons leads to stunning buyout numbers

Monty Williams’ exit from Pistons leads to stunning buyout…

The Detroit Pistons fired head coach Monty Williams on Wednesday after just one season at the helm. Williams was hired by the Pistons on a six-year, $78.5M contract in June 2023 and will still be paid over $65M following his departure. Detroit went an NBA-worst 14-68 during the 2023-24 campaign, a season that included a record-tying 28-game losing streak. The 68 defeats were also the most in franchise history and the most in the Association since the Philadelphia 76ers suffered 72 losses in the 2015-16 season. With the stunning amount of money that the Pistons are tossing to Williams in his buyout, some compared it to how much UConn men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley was being offered by the Los Angeles Lakers for their head-coaching gig. It was reported last week that Hurley had turned down a six-year, $70M offer to coach the Lakers.

Former Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields slammed by Pittsburgh Steelers…

A Pittsburgh Steelers legend is concerned about former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields’ prospects with his team following a viral video of his recent passes. Per multiple reports, Fields didn’t show his best work during the Steelers’ OTAs. Fields issues at OTAs with the Steelers make sense, given that Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid refers to OTAs as “passing camps.” Former Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields is having a rough spring As previously discussed on CCS, Fields had several familiar issues with his passing show up this spring: For Fields to become a starter in Pittsburgh, he’ll have to clean up the issues that made the Bears move on from him this offseason. Per Kaboly, Fields was one of the Steelers’ “losers” during OTAs because he didn’t clean up several issues that haunted his time in Chicago: “More than that, you can see what made him a first-round pick … and also what made the Chicago Bears move on. The arm strength, speed and playmaking with his legs are undeniable. However, he showed inconsistent accuracy and relied on his feet too quickly after the first read. That stuff can be fixed, but maybe not throughout a training camp.” A Pittsburgh Steelers legend is concerned with Fields On Wednesday, a video posted on X from Route God went viral of Fields throwing routes on air to Steelers receivers. Former Steelers All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell slammed Fields for throwing late during the drill: that ball gettin there lateeeeeeeee .. I know it’s routes on air, but this is telling you a lot, Bell Wrote Fields isn’t having a spring that will make Bears fans wish they had kept him over Caleb Williams. But he is having an offseason that will make Steelers fans thankful they signed Russell Wilson before free agency. Related: Fields named one of Steelers’ biggest ‘losers’ during OTAs

Former Patriots QB impressing Ravens insider at new position

Former Patriots QB impressing Ravens insider at new position

Former quarterback Malik Cunningham is transitioning to a new position with the Baltimore Ravens and so far, the results have been impressing team insider Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. “With how noncommittal Ravens officials were for much of the offseason about the former quarterback’s role, it was unclear whether he’d even get the opportunity to compete for a roster spot. Cunningham still faces an uphill battle, but he hasn’t looked out of place as he’s transitioned to wide receiver,” Zrebiec wrote. “He made a few plays in just about every practice, and he’s shown good awareness and quickness. The amount of one-on-one attention he’s gotten from (head coach John) Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Todd Monken indicates that they see potential in Cunningham at his new position.” The 25-year-old played five seasons under center at Louisville, having his best year in 2021 when he led the ACC in rushing touchdowns and touchdowns from scrimmage with 20, all of which came on the ground (he also threw for 19 TDs that season and had one catch for nine yards). Cunningham had a historic performance on Nov. 18, 2021, in a 62-22 defeat of Duke, when he became just the second player in FBS history to pass for at least 300 yards and rush for at least 200 more in the same game, also passing for five scores and running in a pair in the blowout. Cunningham ended the masterpiece going 18-for-25 for 303 passing yards and had 11 carries for 224 yards, finishing just two yards away from matching now-teammate Lamar Jackson’s Louisville single-game rushing record of 226 yards, which the two-time MVP set in 2015. He went undrafted in 2023 and signed with the New England Patriots before being waived, re-signed and spending time between the practice squad and active roster last fall. Cunningham was picked up off the Patriots practice squad in December by the Ravens and ended up playing just 10 offensive snaps last season between the two teams, making no passing or rushing attempts. He’ll have plenty of competition in the Baltimore wideouts’ room, including projected starters Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor.

Latest RB extension doesn't bode well for Najee Harris' future with Steelers

NFL

Latest RB extension doesn’t bode well for Najee Harris’ future…

On Thursday, the New England Patriots signed running back Rhamondre Stevenson to a four-year deal with up to $48 million, including $17 million in guaranteed money. It’s a step in the right direction for the running back position, which has been undervalued as of late, but a step in the wrong direction for running back Najee Harris and the Steelers. Why? Pittsburgh declined Harris’ fifth-year option last month and it was worth just $6.79 million. So if the Steelers want to retain him after this year, there’s reason to think they’ll need to pay more than that option figure annually. Stevenson’s new contract allows him to make up to $12 million per year — almost double what the Steelers were unwilling to pay Harris in 2025. For what it’s worth, Steelers general manager Omar Khan did recently say that the team could still extend Harris. “It was a business decision that we had to make by, I think it was May 2,” Khan said on 93.7 The Fan. “Najee’s awesome to have around here. Love Najee as a player and a person. And just because we didn’t pick it up, that doesn’t exclude us from doing something with Najee for the long term.” However, Stevenson’s deal would likely be a baseline for Harris’ side of negotiations, making it highly unlikely that both sides will come to an agreement. Harris, a former first-rounder, has been very vocal about how he disagrees with the devaluation of running backs. He has also outproduced Stevenson over their first three years in the league. Stevenson, a fourth-round pick in 2021, has rushed for 2,265 yards and 14 touchdowns while also registering 121 catches for 782 yards and one touchdown. Harris, on the other hand, has rushed for 3,269 yards and 22 touchdowns while also reeling in 144 catches for 866 yards and six touchdowns. He became the first player in franchise history to rush for 1,000 yards in his first three seasons, too. So Stevenson’s extension comes as bad news for those hoping that the 2024 season isn’t Harris’ last with the Steelers. But that is what it’s starting to look more and more like as the offseason progresses.
