Rangers could make a “considerable profit” on England Under-18 ace Archie Stevens, with Brighton interested in making a move for the youngster, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper reported in its print edition (27 January, page 58) that the Premier League side are readying a six-figure bid for Stevens in an attempt to land the right-winger before the window closes this month.
Rangers signed the 18-year-old from Wimbledon in 2022, and while he remains a part of the Gers’ B squad, he has already made his debut for the first team and is seen as one of the club’s “brightest talents.”
If Stevens is to make the switch south, as well as the “considerable profit” Rangers will make they will also receive add-ons in the deal.
Difficult to resist
While Stevens has only recently joined the club, and could yet become an important player in Glasgow, it would be hard for Rangers to turn down any offers which would see them make big money on their initial investment.
Brighton have a great track record of signing unproven talent, and if they’re eyeing a move for Stevens, there is a good chance this player could be the real deal.
However, Philippe Clement might be keen to sanction a sale so that any fee generated can be invested back into the first-team squad and make the Gers more competitive in the short term.
Stevens might be a big talent, but he has played just five times in Rangers’ youth ranks, and making money on a player after such limited game time might just be too hard to say no to.
Nonetheless, should they choose to let Stevens go, the club will certainly be hoping they don’t live to regret their decision.
