Report: Eagles’ “Tush Push”

It’s been dubbed the “Tush Push” or the “Brotherly Shove,” but NFL commissioner Roger Goodell apparently only wants to see a permanent ban on the well-liked Philadelphia Eagles play.

Because of its unexpected success, Philadelphia has elevated the play to the top of the league’s conversation points this season. You might as well give them the free first down as soon as you see the Eagles form up in the formation with less than a yard remaining.

Javon Hargrave, a defensive tackle for the San Francisco 49ers who was previously with the Eagles, wishes he knew how to stop it before their crucial Week 13 matchup on Sunday, but it might not need to be stopped on the field for very long.

The competition committee’s 2024 meeting is approaching, and the “Tush Push” is beginning to garner significant attention for its intense argument. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini claimed on Saturday that Commissioner Goodell wanted the play to be permanently banned from the game, citing a league source.

“It’s apparent this is going to be heavily debated among the competition committee made up of owners, general managers and coaches,” Russini stated. It’s significant to highlight that the competition committee is devoid of any representatives from the Eagles organization. Three of their division rivals, though, are represented: Washington head coach Ron Rivera, Dallas Cowboys COO Stephen Jones, and New York Giants owner John Mara.

“Even though it will all come down to voting, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell might have the most significant insight on the play. A league insider informed me that Goodell desires for this play to be permanently eliminated from the contest.”

When people talk about plays like these, the athletes’ health and safety are the main topics of conversation. But according to Russini, who cited sources, the conversation surrounding the “Tush Push is being driven more by optics than by injury.
