Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield has explained why he decided to let striker Tjay De Barr leave the club.

The Gibraltarian international exited Adams Park this month to re-sign for Lincoln Red Imps for his third stint at his boyhood club.

This ends his time with the Chairboys after two-and-a-bit years, where he played 45 times and scored two goals.

His last appearance in the light and dark blue quarters came in the 3-2 EFL Trophy victory against the Fulham U21s at the start of December.

Since then, he has missed the last 10 games with a knee injury with Bloomfield admitting he had a ‘responsibility’ to do what was right for the 23-year-old’s career.

De Barr had signed a new contract with the club in the spring of last year.

He said: “He is someone who I think highly of but we had an approach for Tjay.

“We spoke about it, and I felt it was a good opportunity for him to return home and play regular football, along with the security of a longer contract.

“He’s not played as much football since he’s been in England as he would have hoped, and I believe I have got a responsibility to do what’s right.

“I have a huge amount of respect for Tjay as he’s a great guy who is desperate for success.

“So when someone like that isn’t playing as regularly as they want to, it’s tough for a manager to see them go on that journey.
