The punishments meted out to Tony Brown and Isaiah McKenzie are taken seriously by the Indianapolis Colts.
The Indianapolis Colts’ locker room has completely removed the lockers of wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie and cornerback Tony Brown, according to a report from Nate Atkins of the Indianapolis Star on Wednesday afternoon.
This may not seem like much, but considering that Brown and McKenzie were both healthy scratches for the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and that they will both be suspended for the remainder of the regular season, this could be a major turning point for Shane Steichen’s team.
The Colts currently hold the seventh seed in the AFC playoffs with an 8-6 record, having defeated the Steelers 30-13 last week. In addition, they share a three-way tie with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans for first place in the AFC South.
The Colts might win the division if certain conditions are met and they are able to gather enough momentum to win and end 11-6. Yet Steichen isn’t at all willing to put up with diversions like what’s going on with Brown and McKenzie.
It’s not ideal for the Colts, even though neither of these players had the perfect season considering their veteran responsibilities. Any way you look at it, this is a blow to Indianapolis since McKenzie is a very good kick/punt returner and Brown is a reliable special teams ace who has been with the organization for years.
There is probably yet more to come in this tale, as there is now very little information regarding the reasons behind the Colts’ apparent separation with Brown and McKenzie. Once the news breaks, we’ll see what transpires.
