League One side set to appoint Everton figure in important role

Wycombe Wanderers are reportedly bringing in Everton youth scout Dan Rice as their new transfer authority, according to journalist Alan Nixon’s Patreon. As the 2023/24 season nears its conclusion, Wycombe is aiming to finish strongly before setting their sights on improving their position in the table for the upcoming season.

Despite facing challenges throughout the season at Adams Park, Matt Bloomfield’s team has shown resilience by winning three consecutive matches and maintaining an unbeaten streak for five games. Currently positioned 11th in the League One table, Wycombe Wanderers have a chance to secure a 10th-place finish.

Wanderers have fought for promotion and won it before, so they’ll be keen to get back to those heights next season.

It seems a shake up of the recruitment department is believed to be key to that, and new reports have claimed that one man heading for Buckinghamshire is current Everton youth scout Dan Rice.

Writing on his Patreon, reporter Alan Nixon has said that Rice is quitting the Toffees to take up a ‘leading senior role’ in the refreshen setup at Wycombe Wanderers.

The move comes a little under a year after he swapped Southampton for Goodison Park. Rice has also held roles at Fulham, Arsenal and in the England setup.

Looking to kick on

The recruitment shake-up and move to bring Rice in suggests there will be some significant movement on the transfer front for Wycombe Wanderers this season.

It remains to be seen just what the official title is of Rice’s new senior role, but he should be well-equipped for the position. His experience in recruitment roles at a higher level should give him a wide range of contacts to call upon in a bid to bolster Bloomfield’s ranks, perhaps opening the door to some intriguing loans too.

Wycombe have work to do if they’re to bridge the gap from the mid-table positions to the play-offs once more.

Bloomfield will be striving to get more consistency out of his current players but further additions in the summer will only aid his bid to get Wanderers looking up the table once again.
