Kenny Miller gives Connor Barron verdict amid Aberdeen to Rangers or Celtic transfer links

Kenny Miller doesn’t think the Rangers should try to sign Connor Barron, an Aberdeen midfielder.

As his Dons contract expires, the 21-year-old has been mentioned as a target for Brentford, Celtic, and Old Firm rivals Rangers [Football Scotland, December 13].

Barron is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the current season. He has made 32 appearances for Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

But Miller remarked, “I like what I’ve seen of him,” when asked if the Gers should make a bid for the Scottish kid on the Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, according to Football Scotland [15 January].

“However, switching teams to play for Rangers when you’re not getting a game for Aberdeen—will he help Rangers right now?

“He’s never been a consistent member of Aberdeen’s big-performing midfield. You have to be Aberdeen’s best player in order to get moved to Rangers. That is all. Furthermore, he isn’t Aberdeen’s finest player, let’s face it.

Based on my observations, he appears to be an exceptionally skilled player and a talented young Scot. However, the Rangers need players to join and bolster their starting lineup, not players who might get in.

Rangers’ first goal in every transfer window is to get better players, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t take a chance, if you will, on a younger player.

Barron, who will turn 22 next season, has already participated in three campaigns at the age of just 21. He has demonstrated a great deal of promise and experience for a player of his age.

Rangers

This is all the more tempting because Aberdeen is well aware that he won’t bring in a transfer fee of any kind in the summer and that he should be available for a nominal amount.

Even if there are plenty of choices for Rangers in the central midfield area when everyone is available and healthy, that isn’t always the case.

On the face of it, it doesn’t appear like the Gers will investigate this transaction because Philippe Clement will undoubtedly have his own ideas.
