West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Sammie Szmodics, a lifelong Hammers fan who has been in outstanding form this season.
It has taken some time for the former Colchester player’s career to truly ignite. Szmodics has become the top scorer in the second tier, netting 24 goals in 41 games. His total of 30 goals across all competitions has made him the first Blackburn player to reach this milestone since Alan Shearer in the 1995/96 season. This marks a significant breakthrough for the 28-year-old, whose previous best was 16 goals for Peterborough United in the 2020/21 season.
Now a star at Blackburn Rovers, Szmodics feels he is prepared to ascend to the Premier League. The prolific attacking midfielder has captured the attention of several clubs, thanks to his remarkable goal-scoring feats this campaign.
“I would like to think I’m ready to make the step up,” he shared with Talksport. “But, It’s really about getting the opportunity to show what I can do at that level.
“Hopefully, I’ve proved to those who doubted my ability in the Championship. I know that I can step up and succeed at the top level. We’ll see what the future holds, but it’s everyone’s dream to play in the Premier League.”
