The Indiana Fever are poised to redefine the landscape of women’s professional sports with the announcement of a state-of-the-art, $78 million training facility in downtown Indianapolis. Set to break ground in August 2025, this ambitious project will transform the site of the former Marion County Jail into a 108,000-square-foot sports performance center tailored exclusively for the Fever.
Developed by Pacers Sports & Entertainment (PS&E), the three-story complex is strategically located at the corner of Alabama and Maryland streets, just a short walk from Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The facility is designed to cater specifically to the needs of female athletes, featuring two regulation-sized basketball courts, advanced strength and conditioning equipment, and dedicated areas for yoga and Pilates. Recovery and wellness amenities include hydrotherapy pools, infrared light therapy, saunas, steam rooms, and float tanks. Additional lifestyle features encompass a full-service kitchen, hair and nail salon, childcare space, and a podcast and content creation studio.
PS&E CEO Mel Raines emphasized the significance of this development, stating, “With the goal of Indianapolis becoming the epicenter of women’s sports, this world-class sports performance center will be the preeminent place for players to train, recover, and push their boundaries.”
The facility will also feature a Fever team store offering exclusive merchandise and is expected to serve as a hub for community outreach and engagement initiatives. The project is a collaborative effort between PS&E and the City of Indianapolis, with the land being transferred to the Capitol Improvement Board of Marion County. Upon completion, the facility will be donated to the CIB, further integrating it into the city’s sports infrastructure.
This development aligns with a broader trend in the WNBA, where teams are investing in dedicated practice facilities to enhance player performance and attract top talent. The Fever’s new center will be among the largest and most comprehensive in the league, reflecting the organization’s commitment to providing premier resources for its athletes.
As the Fever continue to build momentum, highlighted by the recent acquisition of standout players and a renewed focus on competitive excellence, the new training facility symbolizes a significant step forward in the franchise’s evolution and the promotion of women’s sports in Indianapolis.
