Heartbreaking news as 80-year-old grandmother killed while defending

An 80-year-old woman from Washington state lost her life during a harrowing carjacking incident while valiantly attempting to protect her two dogs. The Seattle Police Department has since apprehended a 48-year-old suspect in connection with this brutal crime.

The victim, Ruth Dalton, was a wewsshell-known dog walker in her community. On the day of the incident, Dalton was in her vehicle with two dogs—one of which was her own—when the suspect forcefully entered her car. Despite her efforts to resist, the attacker violently pushed her out of the vehicle. Witnesses attempted to intervene, but the situation escalated, and the suspect ultimately drove off, tragically running over Dalton in the process. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene despite the efforts of bystanders and first responders.

Dalton’s granddaughter, Melanie Roberts, described her grandmother as a loving and generous person with a fierce protective instinct, especially when it came to her beloved pets. For over 35 years, Dalton had run her own pet care business, Grandma’s Critter Care, a venture she started to fund her granddaughter’s education. Her passion for the animals in her care was well-known throughout the community, making her loss all the more devastating.

Following the attack, police tracked down the suspect using fingerprints obtained from Dalton’s cellphone. Later, her vehicle was discovered abandoned, and Dalton’s dog was found fatally stabbed at a nearby park. The suspect was arrested that evening, found in possession of a bloody knife and the keys to Dalton’s car.

The suspect, identified as Jahmed K. Haynes, now faces charges of first-degree murder and animal cruelty. His history includes multiple prior convictions, and the authorities are still investigating the motive behind this senseless act of violence. The community remains in shock as they mourn the loss of a woman who was known for her kindness, determination, and love for animals.
