In the summer transfer window, David Moyes may rekindle interest in the central defender that West Ham was unable to get the last time around.

One of the teams who expressed a strong desire to capture Harry Maguire, a defender for Manchester United, last summer was the Hammers. Even if the deal ultimately fell through, Moyes is still eager to bring him to the London Stadium.

Maguire has made a strong recovery from his initial struggles to get playing time under Erik ten Hag. He performed brilliantly against Italy, earning praise from Gareth Southgate for both club and country.

This season, the 31-year-old defender has made 13 Premier League starts, tallying one goal and dishing out two assists. The Sun reports that Moyes believes Maguire would be the best addition to strengthen his defense.

Arranging a bid for Harry Maguire, West Ham

In the summer transfer window, the Hammers plan to make a bid for the England defender. In 2019, he signed with the Red Devils for a then-record £85 million, although West Ham would be willing to offer him between £15 and £20 million.

There is no sign that Maguire will receive a new contract offer from the Red Devils at Old Trafford as his lucrative contract is about to expire.

His sale might generate revenue and make room for newcomers, as he “may be more open to a deal in London.”

According to the article, Maguire might find it difficult to turn down a two- or three-year contract from the Hammers.

Any probable Maguire trade is contingent upon Moyes remaining with the team. The manager of the Hammers has not yet stated if he would remain with the team once the current campaign ends.

If Moyes departs in that scenario, the subsequent manager might not be inclined to gamble on Maguire.
