Rangers may be lining up a late move for Heart of Midlothian striker Lawrence Shankland but confusion surrounds the future of Lys Mousset.Rangers beat Hibernian 3-0 on Wednesday night and are close to making a second January signing with Nordsjaelland midfielder Mohamed Diomande set to arrive.

Philippe Clement may still want more signings though and a new striker is surely on the radar with Danilo and Kemar Roofe both out injured.

Add in Sam Lammers being sent packing to Utrecht and, even with Fabio Silva coming in, Rangers may go for one more striker…

One of the main names linked of late is Lawrence Shankland.

The 28-year-old has hit 18 goals in all competitions this season, continuing to thrive at the head of the Hearts attack.

A boyhood Rangers fan, Shankland has been heavily touted for a move to Ibrox of late.

Reports from Sky Sports just last week suggested that Rangers are interested in signing Shankland and a deal is viewed as feasible if some players move on first.

A £3million price tag has been mentioned for Shankland and Rangers fans may have been getting excited amid claims that Hearts have found a potential replacement.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon suggested that Hearts have identified Lys Mousset as a potential signing ‘as they fear the loss’ of Shankland before the deadline.

Mousset is a free agent having been released by Bundesliga side VfL Bochum earlier this month and Hearts were allegedly interested.

The 27-year-old spent time in English football with Bournemouth and Sheffield United and now needs a new club – but the Hearts rumours have already been shot down.

Joel Sked from Hearts Standard reports that Hearts have no interest in Mousset and the Frenchman won’t be arriving at Tynecastle any time soon.

These conflicting reports only muddy the waters in terms of Shankland’s future; are Hearts eyeing potential replacements or not?

Rangers may hope that they are, even if Mousset isn’t their man, but time is ticking and if Clement and co want Shankland, the time to bid is now rather than waiting until the last minute.
