Chris Martin, a forward for Bristol Rovers, has been named the January Sky Bet League One Player of the Month.
In January, he scored five goals in four games for the Gas, including a daring finish at The Mem against Blackpool and an inch-perfect glancing header away at Barnsley.
The 35-year-old defeated opposition from Josh Sheehan, a midfielder for Bolton Wanderers, and strikers Dan Agyei of Leyton Orient and James Collins of Derby County.
Martin has scored 11 goals in 21 league games so far this season, including both of the goals in a 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic over the holiday season. He has had a great season playing for the blue and white.
Martin expressed his happiness at being awarded the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month after accepting the trophy.
“Obviously, I owe a lot to my teammates for giving me chances to score, but I’m also pleased of this accomplishment.
“At the end of the season, we hope to combine that with a strong team performance, raising the bar, and seeing where we can end up.”
“He’s made a real impact,” supervisor Matt Taylor continued. January was crucial to making sure we had him committed since we were waiting on the contract to be inked.
“I want to see more balls flash across the box, more possibilities for him to be served, and more chances to improve his already remarkable goal record.
“He’s been a key member of our team, and on Tuesday we’re excited to have him back in a new role.”
