Championship club shows interest in millwall star player set to leave…

Portsmouth will see youngster Brian Quarm depart this summer and The News reports he is now on trial at Millwall.

Portsmouth and Millwall will be Championship rivals next season after Pompey won the League One title and the Lions staved off relegation to League One.

A drop to the third-tier looked like a real prospect for the South London outfit too. However, under the lead of returning club legend Neil Harris, they ended on a high and moved far clear of the bottom three.

Both clubs are expected to undergo changes this summer, with Portsmouth preparing for Championship football and Harris aiming to bring in some of his own signings at The Den.As part of Portsmouth’s summer strategy, several academy players will be departing. Among them is youngster Brian Quarm, who may remain in the Championship with Millwall.

According to The News, the 18-year-old defender is currently on a two-week trial with the Lions as he considers his next steps. Although Quarm only made one appearance for Portsmouth’s first team, he could return to London with Millwall if he performs well during his trial.

The significant number of academy departures from Portsmouth has become a notable topic ahead of the summer transfer window. The club has not seen a steady flow of academy graduates into the first team at Fratton Park, and this summer’s exodus represents another substantial group of young talents moving on.

Quarm is among those moving on, and it could be that he moves up to the Championship regardless.

Fans often rejoice at seeing a homegrown, developed player come through the youth ranks and into the first-team. It’s a good way of supplying the ranks with talented prospects to support more senior members too.

Nonetheless, that hasn’t impacted success at Portsmouth, with their promotion sealed regardless.

On the up anyway?

While being released by Portsmouth may have marked a bit of a blow, Quarm’s chance to earn a deal at Millwall means he may well be stepping up to the Championship regardless.

He’ll be determined to make the most of his chance with the South London outfit as they look at the possibility of bolstering their youth setup with some released starlets this summer.

The fact he’s earned a shot at earning a Millwall contract highlights the talent Quarm possesses, so he’ll be hopeful of landing a deal as he bids to keep progressing in his promising career.
