Championship Boss Teases Talks for Derby County Star’s Future at Pride Park

Derby County and Cardiff City will need to talk about the possibility of Ebou Adams making a permanent switch, according to Bluebirds manager Erol Bulut. Adams, who joined Derby on loan in January, played a key role in their successful promotion campaign under Paul Warne. With 17 appearances for the Rams, the 28-year-old quickly became a staple in the team and gained popularity among fans at Pride Park.

His memorable goal against Blackpool earned him the Goal of the Season award, and his solid defensive performances were notable as well, with Warne’s team conceding just seven goals while he was on the field. Given these contributions, it’s no wonder that Derby County is eager to secure a permanent deal with the Gambian international as they prepare for their Championship return. Reporter Darren Witcoop has indicated that the Rams are already putting together an offer.

Regarding Ebou Adams, Cardiff City manager Bulut has shared his thoughts on the player’s return. As quoted by Wales Online, he expressed his congratulations for Derby’s promotion and acknowledged Adams’ significant role in the team’s success.

“Looking ahead to the new season, if Ebou Adams remains with us, we’ll assess how things progress. He’s currently a Cardiff City player under contract, so it ultimately depends on his thoughts, his manager’s plans, and the discussions between Cardiff City and Derby County.

There was significant interest in him, which led to his loan move. However, if they want to make his signing permanent, they’ll need to negotiate with our club.”

The necessity of securing Adams’ signature

Ebou Adams’ impact on Derby County’s successful promotion campaign cannot be overstated. With just a year left on his contract with Cardiff City, there’s optimism that a mutually beneficial agreement can be reached.

Derby County boasted the best defensive record across the entire EFL this season, conceding only 37 goals in 46 matches. Adams, on loan from Cardiff City, played a crucial role in strengthening that aspect during the latter part of the season.

He excellently marshalled the back four, or back three, from the middle of the park and Warne will be keen to retain his defensive set-up heading into the second tier – it is the one area of the pitch that the Rams will need little to no adjustments in despite promotion.

Adams is loved by the Derby faithful and he has admitted that it would be hard to say goodbye, so securing this move appears a no-brainer for both parties.
