Breaking News: Rodriguez Deal Cancelled Over Wage Disagreements

Carlos Correa exits Twins-Tigers game due to injury.

The Minnesota Twins are grappling with a slew of injuries as they kick off the 2024 season, and unfortunately, I don’t have good news to share on that front tonight.

During Friday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers, which was delayed by rain for about an hour, shortstop Carlos Correa was forced to leave the game in the 3rd inning due to what’s being termed as an oblique (side) strain.

According to information from Medical News Today, oblique strains come in three different severities (1 being the least severe, 3 being the worst), and they are quite common in sports like baseball where there’s frequent rotation of the torso. If the injury isn’t too serious, full recovery typically occurs within a few weeks.

An oblique strain, also referred to as a side strain, involves a tear in either the internal oblique muscle or the transversalis fascia. This tear can result in sharp pain, swelling, bruising, and limited movement in the torso. The oblique muscles, positioned diagonally across the sides of the trunk, provide support to the pelvis and abdomen, and are responsible for trunk rotation and flexion. These muscles are crucial for activities like bending, twisting, and breathing. Oblique strains are often seen in sports involving repetitive twisting and overhead movements, such as cricket and baseball.
