Breaking news reports state that Ruben Amorim left for London this afternoon to meet with West Ham’s owners.
According to reports, the Hammers’ private jet took the Sporting Lisbon coach and businessman Raul Costa out of Portugal. A picture of Amorim approaching a private jet was included with the reports, however it’s unclear where the aircraft is going.
After Hammers’ devastating loss to Crystal Palace yesterday, manager David Moyes is under growing pressure. Club sources, however, are adamant that they won’t decide on the manager’s future until the end of the current campaign.
For West Ham, hiring the 39-year-old coach would be a very bold decision. Hiring Amorim will not be cheap, as he has a substantial buyout clause worth approximately £20 million, as was previously mentioned on C&H.
The Hammers’ interest in the Portuguese coach has been confirmed by both David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano today. Amorim is reportedly West Ham’s top target. But former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui, who resides in England at the moment, is also a contender. It was reported last night that Lopetegui chose to sign with the Hammers over the opportunity to coach Milan.
