Paul Robinson has confirmed his availability to rejoin Birmingham City’s coaching team after leaving for a second time last weekend.
The former Blues defender was brought in as interim manager Gary Rowett’s regular assistant for the last eight matches of the season just gone. In the end, it wasn’t a successful finish for Birmingham or the temporary staff as Blues were relegated – but that doesn’t mean Robinson isn’t keen to carry on his work.
Although officially off the books again due to the brief nature of his re-employment, Robinson loves the club and is eager to get involved. The issue with that, however, is the uncertainty around the managerial situation as no official plan has been set out with Tony Mowbray staying on leave through illness.
There’s no rush on Robinson’s part as he’s is aware of the tough and unprecedented situation. The 45-year-old is also mourning the relegation as much as any Bluenose, but he’s chosen to publicly share his willingness to be part of the club’s future anyway.
Posting to Instagram, Robinson said: “I’m sorry we weren’t able to do what we had hoped for this great club and it hurts. It’s been a tough year for everybody, especially for Tony who is a top boss and I really look forward to seeing him back on the Blues touchline very soon.
“Whilst it’s hard to understand right now, we have to trust that things happen for a reason. As always, I will take time to reflect on what I could have done better in such a short space of time.
“I do believe that this club will come back bigger and stronger, the owners have outlined their ambitions, they have a plan and it’s exciting times for everyone involved. I would love to be part of that rebuild. I want to thank you all for your loyal support, you brought the noise every time!”
