Though he feels David Moyes is “at the end of his tether” at West Ham, Alan Pardew does not anticipate a decision regarding his future being made until the summer.
After United’s shocking 5-2 loss at Crystal Palace on Sunday, April 21, in which they fell behind four goals in the first thirty-one minutes of the match, Moyes is under increasing pressure.
With Moyes’s current terms set to expire at the end of the current campaign, Pardew feels that he should wait for Moyes to make a decision on a new contract, which he was previously offered.
“For West Ham, David Moyes is going through a really tough time right now,” Pardew stated on talkSPORT [April 21, 8:11 p.m.]. “They have left Europe, and the fans who dislike his style, etc., have raised this question.
Although he has been there, the results have been excellent, but today was a very difficult day for him. It sounded as though he had given a subpar performance and was at the end of his rope.
“At season’s end, a decision will be made. Maybe they all agree to give each other a handshake. Maybe he will decide it’s not for him. The past week has not been easy for supporters of West Ham.
Will David Moyes stay on as West Ham manager?
In many ways, the loss to Palace felt defining. This season, United has suffered crushing defeats before; the only distinction is that there isn’t any European football to provide a cushion.
For Moyes, it was the kind of show that felt like the end of the road. For all the talk of “be careful what you wish for”, it is hard to imagine the Irons playing that badly if a new manager comes on board.
If Moyes leaves, it won’t be because he was fired, but rather because he left while the supporters still thought well of him. The victory in the Europa Conference League will live on forever.
It is important to note, however, that the Scotsman ought to decide right away rather than delaying until the summer. That way, instead of things possibly getting toxic, these next few weeks can be more about celebration.
It’s possible that the board has already decided on him if reports from overseas are any indication.
