Advanced negotiations: Liverpool is moving forward to sign a “quality” left-footed player at no cost – source

The Reds aren’t the only side looking to strike a deal, though.

Liverpool is rumored to be in advanced negotiations to sign a “quality” player this summer on a free transfer.

January transfer window for Liverpool

The Reds were quiet in the winter market in terms to recruitment, with no new players brought in by FSG to bolster Jurgen Klopp’s squad and a number of players going on loan, including Fabio Carvalho, Nat Phillips and Calvin Ramsay. The biggest story of the month, in fact, concerned Klopp’s announcement that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season.

Jorg Schmadtke, the sporting director, has also left Merseyside after assisting Klopp in rebuilding his midfield with the addition of Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch, and Dominik Szoboszlai in the summer. Speaking about the announcement, Schmadtke said: “Even though I knew it would only be temporary, working here has been a great honor for me because Liverpool is a really special club.

“I want to express my gratitude to the owners, manager, employees, players, and supporters for their support and to wish them the best of luck for the remainder of the season.”

Consequently, FSG will not have a manager or sports director for the 2024–2025 season, but it appears that they are still trying to recruit a summer signing.

Liverpool and Lloyd Kelly are in advanced talks.

In the last 48 hours, journalist Seb Ecrivain Foot spoke with X to provide an update on Kelly’s situation. He said that the defender is in “advanced” talks with both Liverpool and Premier League rivals Tottenham and won’t be signing a new contract on the south coast.

“25-year-old Lloyd Kelly will not agree to have his contract with Bournemouth extended. The defender, who is free this summer, is in advanced talks with Tottenham and Liverpool. To be continued.

Kelly, a left-footed center back with versatility, joined the Cherries in 2019 after departing Bristol City. The 25-year-old has played for the team in 130 games over that period, and he has assisted in their return to the top division.

Despite making 14 appearances under Andoni Iraola this season, it appears that his time at Vitality Stadium is running out. During his tenure on the south coast, Kelly has received accolades, including one from former Bournemouth manager Scott Parker, who praised the player’s “quality” ability in 2022.

“I believe Lloyd Kelly has what it takes to be a top-tier center-half in the Premier League. And I genuinely believe that having someone of his caliber is a blessing and a huge blessing for us.

“You probably take players like Lloyd for granted because of how simple and effortless he makes things appear. When you put someone else in the situation of a ball going down the side of a defender or one in the channel and engaging in a foot race while you’re staring him in the eye, he makes it appear so simple that you probably never notice it.

“He has a lot on him because he’s still so young in his age and he sets very high standards as this team’s captain.”

The Reds and Spurs appear to be fighting it out for the versatile defender’s talents, so it appears like a move to Anfield is something to monitor.
