Agent goes very public with Burnley transfer plans – Depends on Kompany and summer ideas
Wout Weghorst, on loan from Burnley to TSG Hoffenheim since the 2022/23 season, faces uncertainty regarding his future at Turf Moor. Despite his productive spell at Hoffenheim, where he has amassed seven goals and four assists in 29 appearances, the German club holds an option to make his stay permanent, as disclosed by his agent, Simon Cziommer.
Cziommer revealed to Voetbal International that there is a buyout clause in Weghorst’s contract, suggesting that Hoffenheim could secure the 31-year-old striker for a reasonable fee. Weghorst’s contract with Burnley runs until 2025, but Cziommer believes his return to the club is unlikely, primarily due to contractual considerations.
Cziommer highlighted that while there may not be a significant financial gap between the Premier League and the Championship, Weghorst’s one-year contract remaining with Burnley could influence the club’s decision-making. He speculated that if Burnley’s manager, Vincent Kompany, prioritizes Weghorst’s contribution in securing promotion to the Premier League, the situation could change.
Should Hoffenheim opt against exercising their purchase option and Burnley decide to sell Weghorst in the summer transfer window, the striker reportedly favors a move to FC Twente. Cziommer, expressing a personal affinity for the club, emphasized Weghorst’s admiration for FC Twente, where he envisions continuing his career.
