Ryan Garcia, the current sensation in the boxing world, is causing quite a stir with his recent actions. Dubbed as the disruptor of the sport, he’s been at the center of various controversies this spring. Recently, Garcia requested the analysis of his B-sample drug testing, as reported by ESPN. According to boxing insider Dan Rafael, Garcia has been cleared of the 19-Norandrosterone metabolite, and he’s determined to prove his innocence definitively.
Despite facing criticism for his controversial social media behavior, Garcia managed to defeat WBC super-lightweight champion Devin Haney. However, he also faced accusations of doping violations during his DAZN Exclusive pay-per-view (PPV) fight. During an Instagram Live session with influencer-boxer Jake Paul, Garcia mentioned his intention to have his B-sample tested. Initial reports hinted at possible traces of Ostarine in his blood work. The B-sample testing is scheduled for May 22, with Garcia’s representative overseeing the process closely.
In response to these allegations, Garcia strongly denied any wrongdoing. He argued that it wouldn’t make sense for him to undergo drug testing just before the fight, knowing that there would be heightened scrutiny. He also pointed out the controversial figure of Victor Conte, who heads the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA). Garcia highlighted Conte’s connection with Devin Haney, who is sponsored by SNAC, a company owned by Conte.
VADA furnished the newsletter to ESPN, highlighting the aftermath. Previously, Garcia had shared images of his tests on social media, but his recent reputation didn’t garner much support. Additionally, despite “King Ry” announcing his intention to fight Haney while under the influence, and despite facing PED accusations, he didn’t win much favor. With this revelation, perceptions may undergo a significant shift. He’s scheduled for testing for Ostarine on May 22.
Ryan Garcia asserts his innocence following the disclosure of passing a PED test
Ryan Garcia’s victory over Devin Haney was overshadowed by a positive PED test. Sustaining an image of being “unstable,” Garcia proved to be quite the entertainer as he staggered Haney and ultimately defeated him by decision (115-109, 114-110, and 112-112). However, following the triumph, reports surfaced of concerning results in his A-sample for the performance-enhancing substance Ostarine. Interestingly, this occurred both the day before and the day of his unexpected victory over Devin Haney.
Haney did not waste any time to diss the rival, even snubbing a chance at a rematch. Garcia (25-1, 20 KO) had come 3.2lbs over his 140-pound weight limit. Haney thus kept hold of his WBC super-lightweight strap despite the loss; he’s not eager to leave that to chance yet again. Consequently, a second metabolite tested positive from Garcia’s sample other than Ostarine.
With Garcia’s A-sample screening false positive for 19-Norandrosterone, attorney Darin Chavez chaffed at the “billionth of a gram range” discrepancy. As such, Boxing insider Dan Rafael reported Garcia to be in the clear with new tests not confirming the presence of 19-Norandrosterone.
Here’s what Ryan Garcia says now:
Garcia has requested that his B-sample be tested, but the results will not be known until May 22nd. Meanwhile, Garcia continues to claim foul play on what has transpired so far with his VADA testing. Only time will tell if Garcia comes out clean in the entire ordeal.
