Spurs Handed Big Chance to Sign 21 year old Defender Despite Competition from European Giants

Spurs have signed three centre backs since Ange Postecoglou joined the team, and they plan to sign Riccardo Calafiori at the end of the current campaign.

They are “favourites” to sign the Bologna defender, according to a TuttoJuve report, even though Juventus, the powerhouse of Italy, is also vying for his services.

Calafiori joined FC Basel in the summer of 2022 after rising through the ranks at AS Roma. His season with the Swiss club was outstanding. The 21-year-old established quite a reputation for himself while playing in 38 games. Bologna signed him last summer after he turned in some outstanding performances, and under Thiago Motta, he has been nothing short of extraordinary.

His outstanding performances have garnered attention, and Tottenham is among the teams eager to sign him. In order to make sure his defence has enough depth in the middle, Postecoglou is eager to bring in another centre back.

Under the Australian manager, they signed Micky van de Ven, Radu Drăgușin, and Ashley Phillips. Both of them have shown to be excellent additions. They have been a major source of support for Cristian Romero.

Still, the North London team is thin at the back. In the long run, signing the 21-year-old will benefit them more than just expanding their options.

Calafiori is someone who could be worth investing in the future because he will only get better with time.

Spurs are not, however, the only team considering the former Roma player. Juventus is eager to sign him in an effort to strengthen their defence. Spurs’ advantage is that they are currently leading the competition for his signature and are in a much better financial position.
