Despite having just four hits, the Rangers walked seven times against a Royals staff that was having trouble maintaining control. All of Texas’s extra-base hits came from two Rangers minor league outfielders.

The Rangers led 5-4 when Dustin Harris singled to center and Elier Hernandez tripled on a liner to right in the eighth after Derek Hill doubled in the fifth. Here is how the starting lineup performed at the plate, along with some notable replacements: Marcus Semien: Stumbled and failed to find anything.

Evan Carter: Lined out hard to shallow center field after reaching on a fielder’s choice to second. Wyatt Langford: In his last at-bat, he worked a walk after flying out on a high pop to shallow right and grounding out to second. Nathaniel Lowe: Struck out swinging and grounded into an inning-ending force out to third. Leody Taveras: Started the second inning by walking, then flied out to center to score.

Sam Huff: tapped out to the catcher in the third inning after walking and scoring a run in the second. Matt Duffy: In the second inning, he grounded out to third base after singled to center. Ezequiel Duran: Struck out swinging in the fourth and sixth innings after walking in the second. Josh Smith: Made two walks. Others: After taking over for Semien at second base, Justin Foscue failed to make a double play.

The pitchers looked like this: Retiring the side with a flyout to right, groundout to first, and lineout to third, Dane Dunning threw a flawless first inning.

After two innings of work, Drew Waters hit a solo home run with two outs against Cody Bradford. Bradford struck out Garrett Sampson and got flyouts to right field and shortstop in his 1-2-3 third inning. The only pitcher from Texas to pitch more than one inning is Bradford.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy expressed his satisfaction with all of his pitchers, who combined to strike out eight batters and walk two. “That’s what you want to see, those guys going after the hitters, and they did that all day.” Danny Duffy worked one inning and gave up a run on two hits.
