Report: West Ham move in to sign English forward as transfer scrambles starts

According to The Mirror, a number of Premier League teams are vying for Sunderland winger Jack Clarke, including West Ham.

The Hammers are reportedly in the running to sign Clarke, although Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, and Brentford are also vying for the 23-year-old’s services, according to an article in the print edition of the newspaper (page 53, January 11).

Lucas Paqueta, who could miss up to six weeks due to injury, and Jarrod Bowen, who is also out with Ghana at the African Cup of Nations, have put pressure on David Moyes’ team to add more attacking players.

The Hammers are severely lacking in attacking options as a result, and even though Clarke has impressed this season, Sunderland is not under any pressure to sell.

Reaching an agreement on this won’t be easy, especially not in January.

West Ham shouldn’t be afraid of competition from teams like Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, and Brentford because they can provide European football, which would probably make them the most desirable choice. However, whether or not Sunderland wants to play ball could be a problem.

With 12 goals in the Championship, Clarke leads the Black Cats’ goal scoring rankings and has been one of their best performers this season.

West Ham

Sunderland currently occupy one of the play-off places, sitting sixth in the table, and will be reluctant to sell their star man as they target a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2017.

Moyes will be keen to raid his former side, although it would likely require a significant fee. However, with the current injury crisis facing the Scot, that fee might need to be paid if the club want to keep their impressive season so far on track.
