Sunderland given fresh hope of landing Championship star, but he won’t be Le Bris’ first signing – opinion

According to reports, a player connected to Sunderland this summer is in “transfer limbo.”

With the appointment of Regis Le Bris as manager and the acquisition of Simon Moore, their first summer signing, Sunderland appears poised for a bustling July.

Le Bris joins the team more than four months after Michael Beale was fired by the teAam, and he is rumoured to have already contributed to transfer negotiations at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats’ management is under pressure to perform well during the summer transfer window following the difficult and protracted hunt for a new manager.

Under pressure is Kristjaan Speakman, the sporting director. He’s had a mixed record at Sunderland in the transfer market, particularly during the summer.

However, after a difficult few months, he now has a fantastic chance to mend fences with the Sunderland supporters, since bodies are needed all over the pitch.

In particular, Sunderland is expected to add some more seasoned players this summer, since their offensive line appears to be in the greatest need of improvement.

Scott Twine is one option that has been mentioned that now has championship experience and may significantly improve Sunderland’s offence.

The most recent news on Scott Twine’s Burnley future amid interest from Sunderland

Burnley midfielder Scott Twine was linked to Sunderland earlier this summer; it appears that Twine will make another summer transfer.

The 24-year-old won a £4 million transfer to Burnley in the 2022 summer after leading MK Dons to 20 goals and 13 assists in the 2021–2022 League One season.

Twine has since had difficulty adjusting to life in the Championship, making just 14 appearances for Burnley in 2022–2023 before being sent on loan to Hull City and subsequently Bristol City in the previous campaign.

Twine returned to Burnley’s preseason camp after spending some time training with the Robins earlier in the summer.

According to BristolLive, Twine is currently in “transfer limbo,” with former MK Dons manager Liam Manning eager to work with Twine again at Bristol City.

According to earlier reports, Twine’s signing by Bristol City was expected to be permanent.

Could Scott Twine be Regis Le Bris’ first signing at Sunderland

Twine remains an exciting player despite his struggles in the last two seasons, with that one season at MK Dons showcasing what he can do.

He’s a central attacking midfielder who can score and create goals, and he’s something of a set-piece specialist too.

Twine would bring a lot to the table for Sunderland who could yet lose the likes of Jobe Bellingham and Jack Clarke in attack, so additions up top will be crucial this summer.

With Twine reporting back to pre-season training at Burnley, it suggests that the Clarets want to reassess the situation surrounding his future.

That could hand Sunderland a lifeline where Twine is concerned with a move to Bristol City seemingly on hold.

But with Burnley managerless, that could keep Twine at Turf Moor for much of the summer, with the next manager bound to want to take a look at Twine in training.

Sunderland may still have a chance of landing the Englishman this summer. But he may not be one of the first to arrive under Le Bris.
