OPINION Newcastle United need to sign this Sunderland player – Number one priority

Jude Bellingham, an England boy wonder who left Borussia Dortmund after three seasons in the Bundesliga to take on the challenge of playing for Real Madrid, the most successful football team in Europe, was one of the biggest transfers of the summer.

Even though Bellingham was always considered a talented player, I doubt anyone watching the game anticipated the kind of impact he has had—17 goals and five assists in just 20 games.

It would be difficult to argue that he hasn’t been worth Real Madrid’s money.

The kid brother of the La Liga and England player, Jobe Bellingham, is presently playing for Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, directly across the street from us.

If Real Madrid received value for their money, Sunderland may have scored the greatest bargain of the century when they signed 17-year-old Jobe Bellingham from Birmingham City this summer for an alleged $3 million.

Jobe Bellingham, who is only eighteen years old, has been one of the greatest players in the Championship, making 21 appearances, scoring four goals, and dishing out one assist. He is typically a deeper lying player than his older brother, however he has also played as a lone striker. Although it is understandable given his youth and the demanding nature of the Championship that he has appeared to need a break in recent weeks, Jobe Bellingham has proven to be too crucial to leave off the squad, especially in light of the recent troubles that cost Tony Mowbray his job.

That being the case, why am I writing on these pages about a Sunderland player?

Simply put, because I believe Newcastle United should place the highest emphasis on signing Jobe Bellingham.

He is, in my opinion, the exceptional young talent now playing outside of the Premier League, and the ongoing rumors that he will play for Real Madrid alongside his brother indicate that he has enormous potential.

Jude’s career has shown how meticulously his parents, Mark Bellingham, a non-league great with over 700 goals in his record, and Denise, have handled it thus far.

Jude Bellingham was removed from the limelight of the English game and given three seasons at Borussia Dortmund to hone his skills and prepare for his big-money transfer to Real Madrid.

They are obviously approaching Jobe’s career with the same thoughtfulness as they did by bringing him to Sunderland, a team that presently places a strong focus on nurturing and providing opportunities for young players.

Why then would it make sense to relocate to Newcastle?

First of all, he’s already settled in the area, so there wouldn’t be much disturbance from a move; moreover, he would be joining a team that is growing, lead by Eddie Howe, a fantastic manager with a remarkable record of developing players.

A player with great potential and versatility to play multiple positions would be acquired by Newcastle United.

Additionally, there would be a great chance to sell it for value later on.

It’s a bold move that would benefit all involved. Could it be made happen by Newcastle United’s hierarchy?
