Michael Beale explains his one controversial Sunderland decision v Ipswich Town

After Sunderland’s defeat at the hands of Ipswich Town, Michael Beale provided an explanation for his somewhat contentious team selection.

When Nazariy Rusyn was left off the starting lineup for yesterday’s trip to Portman Road, Sunderland supporters were taken aback.

Abdoullah Ba took the place of the Ukrainian, while Joe Bellingham was moved up to the No. 9 spot.

Following Nazariy Rusyn’s goal on New Year’s Day, the Black Cats defeated Preston North End 2-0, making him the first striker to score for Sunderland this season.

Rusyn was later given another opportunity to start in the FA Cup match against Newcastle United, and he performed admirably in spite of the outcome.

But instead of getting credit for his performance against Preston, the forward was benched in favor of Ba, who has recently displayed some “woeful” displays.

In an explanation of his choice, Michael Beale stated that the team’s “connection” with Jobe at the top was superior.

The head coach stated, “We did play with a striker, we played with Jobe,” in an interview with Sunderland Echo.

“He is capable of playing there, and he has in victories over us. We have four young strikers: three of them are probably still getting used to this league, and we also have another who has performed well. However, I thought the team clicked better when Pritch played off Jobe.

I’m making an effort to improve the circumstance that I inherited. Naz has played more since I’ve been here, but you also want to give players credit for their efforts, and I thought Abdoullah had a great training week and should have been able to play. He had an impact on the initial objective. I can definitely relate to some of the supporters’ frustration with this circumstance. Since the team is searching for something that might assist us up front, I believe we do as well. In addition, we’re in a strong position in the league if we discover it, so we can move forward from there.

What action did Nazariy Rusyn take to get the dismissal?

Up attack, Jobe Bellingham has shown flashes of brilliance at times; previously this season, he scored two goals against Rotherham United.

However, the teenager has not only failed out of position but also struggled at midfield in recent games.

After the loss against Newcastle United, Jobe was arguably the only player who should have been benched, but Michael Beale chose to keep him in and bench the only Sunderland striker to score in nearly a year.

Rusyn would feel penalized now and even more perplexed that Beale brought in a player who had been underperforming since before Christmas. Rusyn was full of confidence and had the ideal opportunity to maintain his form.

Rusyn was still badly treated even though Abdoullah Ba looked really good against Ipswich yesterday. He had the opportunity to affect the game had he started, or even just entered the game early.

Not for the first, and most definitely not the last, Beale committed a grave error. Seeing the former Rangers manager lead us in the wrong direction is extremely unsettling, and it doesn’t appear like the owners give a damn.
