Hull City sack manager Liam Rosenior after Tigers miss out on Championship play-offs | Football News | Sky Sports

Sunderland has formally expressed interest in appointing Liam Rosenior as their new manager, according to sources from Football Insider.

Following the dismissal of Michael Beale in February, the Black Cats have been actively searching for a new head coach, with Mike Dodds serving as the interim manager until the conclusion of the current season.

On May 15, Football Insider reported that Birmingham City had also added Rosenior to their shortlist of managerial candidates, as Tony Mowbray is considered unlikely to return to the dugout next season despite improvements in his health.

Sunderland is now poised to compete with Birmingham City to secure the services of the 39-year-old Rosenior as their new manager.

Rosenior is highly esteemed by numerous EFL clubs, owing to his commendable work at Hull City and his notable tenure as assistant manager alongside Wayne Rooney at Derby County.

His dismissal from Hull City was met with widespread surprise, given that he had narrowly missed securing a place in the Championship play-offs.

Both Sunderland and Birmingham City are preparing for a potential contest over Rosenior’s appointment. Sunderland is particularly focused on laying the groundwork to challenge for a top-six finish in the Championship in the upcoming season.

The Black Cats’ recent campaign concluded in disappointment, with only one victory in their final seven matches, resulting in a 16th-place finish.

Rosenior, who led Hull City to a seventh-place finish in the Championship before his recent sacking, is highly regarded by Birmingham City and is considered a top candidate if Mowbray is unable to resume his managerial role.

Birmingham City is eager to secure an immediate return to the Championship following a profoundly disappointing season at St Andrew’s, which culminated in their relegation.
