Strikers: : What to expect from Stockport County’s list this summer

Stockport County will spend the summer preparing for League One.

Stockport County were promoted from League Two after winning the title.

They have advanced alongside Wrexham and Mansfield Town, with one of MK Dons, Doncaster Rovers, Crewe Alexandra, or Crawley Town expected to join them in the play-offs.

Here’s what you can expect from the Hatters’ retained list.

Will the duo stay?

Stockport County goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe’s contract expires next month, but it’s unlikely he will leave. He has been with the club since 2016, when they were in the National League North, and has been an excellent servant.

Striker Paddy Madden, who has helped the Hatters rise from the National League to the third tier in recent years, is also facing an uncertain future. He has 65 goals in 156 matches and should be kept for at least another year.

Players to be released

Winger Myles Hippolyte provides useful competition and depth on the wing but his game time is likely to dry up if he was to remain. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the former Scunthorpe United man depart.

The Hatters must make a big decision regarding attacker Connor Lemonheigh-Evans. He has been loaned out twice to Notts County and AFC Wimbledon in recent seasons.

Meanwhile, backup goalkeeper Jordan Smith is set to become a free agent soon, and his future at Edgeley Park remains uncertain.

Who to keep?

Stockport County will most likely renew the contracts of Ryan Rydel and Ethan Pye. The two have promising futures ahead of them, with the latter breaking into the first team this season.

Ryan Croasdale and Antoni Sarcevic have been important members of Challinor’s squad in recent years, and while reinforcements are expected in their position in the coming months, they deserve to stay.

Right-back Macauley Southam-Hales is injured, but it would be unfair to cut ties with him right now.
