The Southampton player is planning a future return to his previous club, “the club that gave me everything.”

Southampton man Alcaraz eyes future return to former club

In an interview with TyC Sports, Southampton attacker Carlos Alcaraz stated that he intended to rejoin his old team, Racing, in the future.

Alcaraz was acquired by Southampton from Racing in January 2023 for an alleged £12 million. Since then, he has made 47 appearances for the Saints, tallying five assists and eight goals during his single season with the team.

Nevertheless, on transfer deadline day in January, he was sent out on loan to Italian powerhouse Juventus, where he would remain until the end of the season, after being judged unnecessary at St. Mary’s.

Since relocating, his career at Juventus has been very erratic; he only made four appearances before suffering a premature hamstring injury. According to sources, the Serie A team has a €49.5 million buy option if they decide to extend his loan.

Although the 21-year-old’s immediate future is now under dispute, he has opened up about his long-term objectives. He stated that he would like to return to racing later in his career in an interview with TyC Sports.

“I would adore returning.” I’d like to come back in the future, but I’m not sure if I’ll be a reference like Diego [Milito] or Licha [Lopez], he remarked.

“Racing is the club that gave me everything in Argentina; they are the one with priority, and I will always say yes to them.”

What is the future of Alcaraz at Southampton?

While it’s good to be back where it all began, focus will soon shift to Alcaraz’s new football team for the upcoming season.

It doesn’t seem realistic that he would go back to Southampton now that he’s experienced playing in the premier league with both the Saints and a team like Juventus. Consequently, an exit from Southampton may be imminent if a team from one of the top leagues in Europe expresses interest and the team is not promoted from the Championship.

It appears improbable that Juventus will activate the option to acquire Alcaraz, particularly considering the over €50 million asking price. They will probably try to work out a deal to purchase him for less if they really want the play, but they won’t be successful until Southampton agrees to reduce their asking price.
