Borussia Dortmund may reignite their interest in Southampton’s defender Armel Bella-Kotchap this summer, as it appears to be a mutually beneficial deal. Ruhr 24 discusses the player today, highlighting Southampton’s potential decision to place Bella-Kotchap back on the market, which could once again pique Borussia Dortmund’s interest.
According to reports, the defender is likely to switch clubs in the summer, making him a potentially intriguing prospect for Dortmund. Although Dortmund expressed interest in him during the previous summer transfer window, a deal couldn’t be finalized. Nevertheless, he remains a player of interest for the Champions League finalists.
Bella-Kotchap aligns well with Dortmund’s player criteria as he is young, at 22, and possesses versatility in defense, capable of playing in various positions. Additionally, he is viewed as affordable, with an estimated price tag of around €20m, within Dortmund’s financial reach.
During the previous summer, Dortmund prioritized strengthening their forward line over defensive acquisitions, which led to the deal not being completed. Consequently, the defender joined PSV Eindhoven temporarily, but a return to Southampton is anticipated this summer, likely followed by his placement on the transfer market. This scenario presents Dortmund with a logical opportunity to secure Bella-Kotchap, particularly considering the potential need to replace Mats Hummels, whose contract is expiring.
