Neil Robertson Comments on Ronnie O’Sullivan kicking off with snooker referee.

Neil Robertson during World Championship qualis

Neil Robertson has shared new insights on Ronnie O’Sullivan’s dispute with a referee during the World Snooker Championship. Robertson suggests that the stress of pursuing a record eighth World Snooker Championship might have affected O’Sullivan during his quarter-final loss to Stuart Bingham. The incident involved O’Sullivan disagreeing with referee Desislava Bozhilova over the positioning of the black ball, which led him to intentionally miss a shot to demonstrate her error. Additionally, he argued with Bozhilova about an open door at The Crucible Theatre.

Initially, while commentating for the BBC, Robertson commended O’Sullivan’s choice to miss the red ball as a display of sportsmanship. However, Robertson now believes that the pressure of winning an eighth title may have influenced O’Sullivan’s behavior. He highlighted a moment at 10-10 involving a door and the crowd, suggesting it was pivotal. Robertson noted that with Judd Trump eliminated earlier, O’Sullivan might have felt that winning against Bingham would have assured his championship victory.

O’Sullivan, who shares the record of seven world titles with Stephen Hendry, has not won another title since 2022 and had only one World Championship victory prior to that since 2014.
