Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship rivals release 12 players as Owls favourite tipped for League One role

The latest news from across the Championship as Sheffield Wednesday prepare for another season in the second tier.
Sheffield After earning their division spot last week, the Owls began preparing for the 2024–25 championship season on Wednesday. Danny Rohl’s side pulled out of the bottom three in the final stages of the season, as Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town, and Rotherham United were relegated to League One.

The Owls won their last three games to end in 20th place. According to The Star, Rohl is in positive conversations with Dejphon Chansiri about the club’s future, which will allow them to plan for another season in the second division. Rohl’s successful spell with the Owls has already sparked rumours about a move away from Hillsborough. His contract expires at the conclusion of the following season, thus extending the German’s tenure is a primary priority this summer.

Other clubs have started preparing for next season’s Championship, with some already announcing their retained lists. Bristol City announced the departure of twelve players.
Matty James, Andy King, and Andreas Weimann were all released, with King announcing his retirement at the beginning of this month. James made almost 100 appearances for the Robins, while Weimann played 216 games for City and scored 51 goals.
Robins manager Liam Manning stated, “The players who are leaving have all been fantastic servants to this club.” They are all exceptional professionals that have made an impact at Bristol City. I wish them the very best for the future.”
Ben Acey, Zac Bell, Mac Boyd, Marlee Francois, Callum Hutton, Duncan Idehen, Dylan Kadji, Harry Leeson, and Harvey Wiles-Richards all left Bristol after their contracts expired. Joe Williams and Romani Rowe are both out of contract, but negotiations for new contracts are still underway.
Pearson ‘among favourites’ for Huddersfield job
Nigel Pearson, a former Sheffield Wednesday player, is among those expected to take over at Huddersfield Town. The Terriers were relegated to League One after finishing six points behind Plymouth Argyle in 21st place.
