Sheffield wednesday ‘planning’ £8m move for Sunderland star also linked with EPL clubs

Sheffield Wednesday reportedly considering an £8 million bid for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.

The 21-year-old is a Black Cats academy graduate who excelled in the 2023/24 season despite his youth. He made 45 league appearances, missing only the final day’s defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

According to Alan Nixon’s Patreon page, the Blades are looking to sign the England under-21 international this summer. Blades manager Chris Wilder is looking for a new number one, as Wes Foderingham is out of contract and Ivo Grbic has been inconsistent.

Grbic joined Sheffield wednesday in the January transfer window, bringing with him impressive credentials. However, he did not provide the assured presence that Blades fans had hoped for.

Sheffield wednesday are among the clubs linked with Viktor Johansson, who is expected to leave Rotherham United following their relegation to League One. According to the report, a move for Johansson has been stalled as Sheffield United seeks to raise their game.

Sunderland are reportedly seeking a higher offer than Sheffield United’s £8 million bid, but this could be their best option. Premier League clubs Liverpool and Wolves are reportedly interested in the talented goalkeeper.

Sheffield United have only one game remaining in their disastrous season, a home game against Tottenham Hotspur. Their fate has long been sealed, and they will return to the Championship for the 2024/25 campaign.
