Sheffield United ‘planning’ £8m move for Sunderland star also linked with Wolves and Liverpool

Sheffield United is reportedly planning an £8m bid to acquire Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson. Patterson, a 21-year-old product of Sunderland’s academy, had an impressive 2023/24 season, making 45 league appearances and showcasing his talent despite his young age. The Blades are looking to secure him as their new number one goalkeeper, with manager Chris Wilder seeking a reliable option following the departure of Wes Foderingham, whose contract has expired, and the inconsistency shown by Ivo Grbic, who joined the club in January but failed to meet expectations.

is one of the clubs interested in Viktor Johansson, who is likely to leave Rotherham United after their relegation to League One. However, Sheffield United’s pursuit of Johansson has hit a snag as they are aiming for higher-profile signings. Sunderland is reportedly demanding more than the £8m offered by Sheffield United, although this may be their best offer. Premier League clubs Liverpool and Wolves are also monitoring Johansson’s situation.

As for Sheffield United’s own season, they have one final game against Tottenham Hotspur, marking the end of a disappointing campaign that has seen them relegated to the Championship for the upcoming 2024/25 season.
