The latest twist in Duncan McGuire’s story after Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers transfer dramas.

The Sheffield Star have reported that Duncan McGuire has been the subject of two transfer bids launched from unnamed clubs in Belgium and Germany, and his club Orlando City have also recently offered him a new contract, as they look to tie him down on a long-term basis.

This means that if one of Blackburn or Sheffield Wednesday want to sign him this summer, they’re going to have to act fast, as McGuire isn’t short of interest.

The 23-year-old has proven himself as a prolific goalscorer across the Atlantic, and his stock will only continue to rise, particularly if he performs well on the international stage.

Blackburn will be kicking themselves that they’ve missed out on McGuire’s signing due to an error with the paperwork, and it remains to be seen if they’ll rekindle their interest in the Nebraska-born forward this summer.

Wednesday, meanwhile, have reportedly been monitoring McGuire’s progress since January, but there hasn’t been a concrete move to secure his services at Hillsborough this summer.

Earlier in January, the Owls were close to securing McGuire’s signature. The striker even visited Sheffield to discuss terms with club officials. However, Blackburn’s sale of Adam Wharton freed up funds, allowing them to sign McGuire, or so they believed.

The whole transfer ordeal turned into a comedy of errors, with both Blackburn and Sheffield missing out on the player. If there’s any chance of a summer move, it may need to happen much earlier due to interest from European clubs.

Despite Orlando City offering Duncan McGuire a fresh contract, the player looks keen to leave the club, as shown by his desire to move to England in January.

It remains to be seen which clubs in Germany and Belgium are keen on signing him, but Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn will certainly face a tough battle to sign him, given they now have competition from the continent.

You certainly wouldn’t blame the striker if he decided to give Blackburn a wide berth this summer after the way he was messed about by them in January, and perhaps Wednesday could capitalise on this.

Striker Ike Ugbo impressed for the Owls during the second-half of the season, and even if they are able to secure a permanent deal for him, there would still be scope for a permanent move for McGuire.

The striker played a crucial part in ensuring the Owls’ league survival, and the club is keen to retain him. Despite signing Ugbo in mid-January, Danny Rohl’s team remained interested in the American player by month’s end, indicating they could accommodate both players.

The ongoing Duncan McGuire transfer saga might extend into summer, possibly attracting interest from European clubs.
