Former Sheffield Wednesday attacker released in latest retained list announcement

With the Championship only ending this past weekend, when Wednesday confirmed their second-tier status, there have been no releases from their rivals – but several League One and League Two teams have already made their judgements.

Reading, Barnet, Fleetwood Town, Barnet, Accrington Stanley, and Notts County are among the clubs that have indicated who will and will not be returning for the 2024/25 season, and each has taken a decision on former Owls who are now on their books.

Former Wednesday favourites Sam Hutchinson and Gary Hooper have left Reading and Barnet after being featured on the list of players released, as have three former Hillsborough players: Ben Heneghan, Korede Adedoyin, and John Bostock.

More will follow in the coming weeks, while Wednesday’s retained list is not expected right now, but Danny Röhl will undoubtedly be keeping an eye out as other clubs throughout the country release players who the German believes might enhance his ranks for the forthcoming season.

According to FA guidelines, teams must tell out-of-contract players of their retention status by the third Saturday in May, which is May 18th this year.
